Toughening

Toughening

Toughening glass, sometimes known as tempering glass, is an essential part of what we do at Pearsons Glass!

Handling thicknesses from 4mm up to 15mm, our toughening furnace has a capacity of 1500mm x 3000mm with a minimum piece size of 250mm corner to corner. Once glass has been toughened the surface strength is increased by up to five times, making it the perfect choice for shelving, balustrading, shower screens, splashbacks and much more.

The process of toughening, exposes glass to high temperatures of around 740°C, then rapidly cools, making it far more resistant to heat and shock and ensuring that if the glass is breaks, it does so in a safe way, minimising the risk of injury.

All toughened glass supplied will include our kite mark stamping of EN12150, which can be positioned on the face of your glass, or along the edge thickness. A discreet edge thickness stamps is perfect if your glass is being using in display cases or furniture, maintaining a sleek and clean finish.
